An exciting opportunity exists to join the Department’s Curriculum, Teaching and Learning branch to lead strategic, state-wide STEM education initiatives that make a difference in the lives of Queensland students and teachers. We are seeking a leader that has deep curriculum knowledge, is innovative and is passionate about mathematics.
About The Role
The role of Manager - STEM oversees the implementation of initiatives that support the Equity and Excellence education strategy mathematics priority and the delivery of Australian Curriculum Implementation Support resources and capability for science, technologies and mathematics.
The position has HR responsibility for a team, provides strategic advice to senior officers on STEM curriculum and related issues including governance and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to deliver high quality outcomes.
As The Manager You Will
- Oversee state-wide initiatives related the departmental mathematics priorities, operating within policy guidelines.
- Take responsibility for governance activities: review local, national and international reports to government, prepare ministerial briefing notes, reports and and correspondence, liaise with other government bodies and community organisations.
- Provide specialist curriculum advice within and across agencies and represent the department at meetings, conferences or seminars.
- Draw on discipline expertise and project management to quality assure and evaluate STEM education programs and materials for continual improvement.
- Engage critical and creative thinking, and exercise significant levels of independent judgement and delegated authority as required.
- Provide operational and strategic leadership to the CTL STEM Team, formulating strategic plans for staff and organisational development as required and fostering a positive culture and wellbeing.
- Engage with research and synthesise information to inform practice and advice.
- Establish and maintain partnerships with internal and external stakeholders for mutual benefit and to maximise outcomes for students and teachers.
About You
The ideal candidate will have;
- Deep knowledge of mathematics, science and technologies curriculum across phases of learning.
- Passion for STEM education, including mathematics, and have advanced qualifications.
- Experience leading education initiatives with significant reach and impact.
- Interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills to enable the effective resolution of complex organisational issues.
