Laidley State High School is seeking two committed professionals to join our School Leadership Team in the role of Head of Department Student Services (locally known as Head of Year) for the 2026 school year.
The successful candidates will work under the supervision of the relevant Deputy Principal and in collaboration with other Heads of Year, faculty Heads of Departments, Year Coordinators, teachers and support staff to lead the academic engagement, wellbeing and positive behaviour for students in the Junior or Middle phase.
The Head of Year will nurture positive relationships between students, teachers, parents and stakeholders.

The Head of Year will work as a key member of our School Leadership Team to create a positive cohort culture, set clear standards and expectations and enact proactive and responsive programs and support strategies for students. This will be achieved by creating strong partnerships with teachers, support staff, parents and external organisations and having a sharp focus on attendance, learning engagement, behaviour and wellbeing.
The Head of Year will support students to transition into and within junior and middle schooling and identify appropriate learning pathways for individual junior and/or middle phase students.
Responsibilities Include
- Provide leadership and guidance for the implementation of innovative measures aimed at improving student learning outcomes and attendance in schools where a significant percentage of students may have a disadvantaged background, ensuring quality learning outcomes for all students.
- Where requested, prepare all data returns for the Principal.
- Provide management and engagement strategies including induction activities of new arrivals, and advise on specific academic, social and emotional needs of new arrivals.
- Monitor students' individual performance and behaviour and develop and implement intervention strategies where necessary.
