Provide leadership and direction to the Territory’s leading team of Neurosurgeons at Royal Darwin and Palmerston Hospital.
Royal Darwin and Palmerston Hospital is the principal tertiary hospital within the region and provides a broad range of referral services in all specialist areas to Darwin, the Top End of the NT, Western Australia and South-East Asia.
As the Head of Neurosurgery, your primary objective is to provide leadership and direct line management of the Department of Neurosurgery, including human resource management, supervision of medical staff and departmental performance. You will also participate as a member of a senior management team and support divisional clinical governance, operations and implement strategic programs.
Your key duties will include the management of patient flow and demand management strategies, safety and quality, clinical audit and review, staff mentoring and training, and leading a culture of high-performing teams. You will also be responsible for fostering partnerships between healthcare providers and leading continuous quality improvement activities to enhance the capacity for multi-disciplinary care and contribute to NT Health clinical leadership.
To be successful you require eligibility for specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia, a current Fellowship of a relevant Medical College, recognition as a professional leader in the provision of Neurosurgery services, and a track record in the pursuit of clinical excellence.
Effective leadership, interpersonal communication and relationship building skills, along with a commitment to ensuring equity of access to quality health care and participation in continuing education, teaching and research, is essential. The ability to maximise clinical activity throughput in Operating Theatres and Outpatients and Outreach, will contribute to your success.
Applicants will be assessed at both the Senior Medical Officer levels and offers will be made based on the successful applicant’s qualifications and experience.
