Join our dynamic Strategic Communication and Engagement team within the Department of Customer Services, Open Data and Small and Family Business. We deliver media, social media, communication, marketing, corporate events, sponsorship, engagement support, and online and creative services. The Principal Advisor (Media) plays a key role by collaborating with a range of stakeholders to develop and deliver strategic media and communications content that enhances the public’s understanding of the department’s services, programs and initiatives, and the department’s reputation. You’ll be leading the development of media opportunities and content and dealing with day-to-day enquiries. We support a flexible and agile workforce and are seeking adaptable, collaborative team members who are open to change.
Your Responsibilities
- Lead, develop and execute media strategies that engage audiences through a variety of traditional and emerging media channels, collaborating with experts in other communications fields to amplify the message.
- Identify, plan and produce proactive opportunities to promote the work of the department in alignment with department priorities.
- Produce a range of high-quality media content including (but not limited to) responses, releases, talking points, speeches, briefing notes, articles, scripts and presentations.
- Provide media advice, training and support to spokespeople, departmental staff and stakeholders.
- Liaise and build relationships with ministerial advisors, senior executives, government peers, external organisations and media outlets.
- Analyse media outcomes, using data to measure success and identify areas for improvement.
- Maintain currency with the latest technologies, techniques and networks to deliver innovative and improved media services and strategies.
- Lead and undertake media reporting and monitoring tasks..
- Lead and mentor junior staff in the creation of media strategies, communication and media content.
- Actively engage in a team environment and positive culture, by demonstrating our core values, celebrating success, and committing to continued learning and development for you and your staff.
- Provide support for events or critical incidents which may require work outside of standard hours or on-call availability.
- Contribute as required to the broader strategic communication function within the department.
