Job Description
About the Role
Commencing January 2027, We are seeking an outstanding educational leader to join our Senior School as
Learning Leader, Humanities (Years 9–12).
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate educator to lead curriculum development, teaching excellence and innovation across the Humanities learning area. As a key member of the school's leadership team, you will work collaboratively with senior leaders and teaching staff to ensure high-quality learning experiences that inspire student engagement, achievement and success.
The successful candidate will be an exemplary classroom practitioner with a strong commitment to educational excellence, student wellbeing and continuous improvement. They will bring energy, vision and a collaborative leadership style, supporting both staff and students to thrive in a dynamic learning environment.
This is an ongoing full-time teaching and leadership position, supported by a Level 8 Responsibility Allowance and 0.20 FTE time release for leadership responsibilities.
Key Focus Areas
- Provide strategic leadership for the Humanities learning area across Years 9–12.
- Lead the development, implementation and review of curriculum, assessment and reporting practices.
- Foster a culture of high expectations, academic excellence and student achievement.
- Support and mentor teachers through coaching, professional learning and collaborative practice.
- Promote innovative and evidence-informed teaching and learning approaches.
- Ensure curriculum programs align with relevant educational frameworks and requirements.
- Lead regular faculty meetings and contribute to whole-school improvement initiatives.
- Support staff wellbeing, professional growth and performance development processes.
- Oversee faculty resources, facilities and budget planning.
- Build strong partnerships with students, families and the broader educational community.
- Contribute to student wellbeing and pastoral care initiatives.
- Actively participate as a member of the school's leadership and management team.
- Champion child safety and promote a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
Essential Qualifications & Requirements
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Appropriate tertiary teaching qualifications.
- Current teacher registration, or eligibility for registration, in Tasmania.
- Extensive experience teaching Humanities in a secondary school setting.
- Demonstrated leadership experience within curriculum, teaching and learning.
- Strong knowledge of Years 7–12 curriculum frameworks and assessment practices.
- A proven ability to lead, motivate and support teaching teams.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and relationship-building skills.
- Strong organisational, planning and project management capabilities.
- Experience using ICT and learning management systems to enhance teaching and learning.
- A commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous professional growth.
- Outstanding pastoral care skills and a genuine commitment to student wellbeing.
- The ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, families and external stakeholders.
- A current Working with Vulnerable People Registration.
- A current National Police Check.
- Demonstrated commitment to child safety and safeguarding practices.
- The capacity to contribute positively to the broader life of the school community.
