Waverley College is seeking an outstanding educator and pastoral leader to join the College as Head of House. This is an exciting opportunity for a relational, organised and values-driven leader to play a significant role in the wellbeing, formation and development of young men across Years 5–12.

Waverley College, established in 1903, is a Catholic school in the Edmund Rice tradition catering for boys from Years 5-12 across two campuses in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. The College is committed to developing innovative learning, formation and wellbeing programs that enable young men to flourish across their spiritual, cognitive, social, emotional, cultural and physical dimensions.
The Role
The Head of House will be central to the mission of the college, working closely with students, families, House Mentors and the broader Student Wellbeing Team to ensure every student is known, valued and challenged, allowing them to reach their full potential.
Reporting to the Deputy Principal – Students and the Director of Student Wellbeing, the Head of House will lead a team of House Mentors and contribute to the continued development of the College’s wellbeing, formation and House programs. The role will suit an educator who is highly visible, proactive and confident in building strong relationships with students, staff and families.
The successful candidate will:
- Lead and support a cohesive team of Mentors to deliver high-quality pastoral care, wellbeing and student formation
- Foster House spirit and student connection through assemblies, competitions, events and community engagement
- Support the development of the Waverley College Graduate — a young man of faith, integrity, respectful relationships and positive mindset
- Work in partnership with parents and carers to support student wellbeing, growth and engagement
- Contribute to the planning, delivery and evaluation of the College’s wellbeing curriculum
- Monitor student progress, behaviour, attendance and academic engagement using relevant data and systems
- Model Gospel values and actively promote the Edmund Rice ethos across the College community
- Maintain strong compliance, record keeping and child safeguarding standards
- Contribute to College life through presence at key events, co-curricular activities and community occasions

About You
The successful candidate will be an experienced educator with a strong commitment to student wellbeing, formation and pastoral leadership. They will demonstrate:
- Relevant teaching qualifications and current teacher accreditation
- A strong understanding of student wellbeing, pastoral care and behaviour management
- The ability to lead, coach and support staff within a House or pastoral structure
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with students, parents and colleagues
- A commitment to Catholic education and the Edmund Rice tradition
- Sound judgement, attention to detail and a proactive approach to student support
- Strong organisational capability and confidence using data and systems to inform practice
- A current Working With Children Check and commitment to child safety
