Safeguarding Practice Lead – Newcastle Anglican Schools

The Safeguarding Practice Lead provides specialist operational leadership to strengthen safeguarding practice, child protection processes, incident management, and reporting consistency across Newcastle Anglican Schools.
The role supports Principals and school leaders to confidently apply child safeguarding requirements, mandatory reporting obligations, reportable conduct processes, Reporting of Crime (ROC) obligations where applicable, and organisational incident escalation pathways consistently across school environments.
The Safeguarding Practice Lead acts as a trusted advisor to school leadership teams by providing guidance, coaching, oversight, and quality assurance in relation to safeguarding concerns, student protection matters, reportable conduct issues, and operational safeguarding practices.
The role contributes to a proactive child-safe culture through improved operational consistency, strengthened safeguarding capability, enhanced incident oversight, and reduced organisational risk across Newcastle Anglican Schools.

Essential Qualifications
- Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social Science, Investigations, Risk Management, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
- A current Drivers License
- A current Working with Children Check
- National Police Check (Newcastle Anglican will consider the relevance of any reported outcomes).
Essential Experience
- Significant experience in safeguarding, child protection, investigations, incident management, or related operational environments.
- Demonstrated experience supporting leaders in complex decision-making and risk management.
- Experience conducting investigations and preparing investigative, assessment, or incident reports
- Strong understanding of:
- Mandatory reporting obligations
- Child Safe Standards
- Reportable conduct requirements
- Safeguarding legislation and best practice
- Experience liaising with external agencies including:
- NSW Police
- Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ)
- Office of the Children’s Guardian (OCG)
The successful applicant will possess or willingness to obtain the following: NDIS Worker Screening Check, National Criminal History Check, First aid & CPR certificate and undertake a pre-employment functional medical.
