Where we workThe ‘catchment’ for Hume Con ranges is around 120 km radius from our home base in Goulburn – or about 1200 km2. In practice, most teachers work in one or two of the five Local Government Areas we service:
- Goulburn-Mulwaree,
- Upper Lachlan,
- Yass Valley
- Wingecarribee
We also work on a smaller scale in Wollondilly and Queanbeyan-Palerang LGAs.
How we workA broad range of musical activities are undertaken by Hume Con for students from infancy to old age, with tuition, learning and music making options for different stages of life. Work before 3 pm typically involves school-based classes/teaching/ensembles, or specialised activities such as early childhood development and community-based teaching.
Conservatorium music school tuition and conservatorium-based ensembles typically occur between 3pm and 8pm, Monday to Friday, although there is some demand for early morning classes where this suits teachers, and we are starting to offer classes on Saturdays when teachers are available.. We offer both group and individual lessons.
The conservatorium regularly conducts performance workshops, concerts and events, including masterclasses with visiting artists. Teachers are expected to support and be involved in these broader educational experiences (within reason), and attendance is typically on paid time.
EmploymentWe typically offer employment contracts, although working as a contractor is possible. You can work on an ongoing or casual basis. Many teachers have a mix of skills which allows them to work in several areas, and it is possible to combine Classroom and individual/small group teaching in one role. The employment contract we offer will depend on your areas of teaching, the locations and times for which you are available, and current levels of demand.
The qualifications and experience of our existing staff varies. You would typically have (or be completing) a performance degree. Some staff also have teaching qualification. We also employ staff with lesser qualifications but considerable industry experience in performance and/or teaching. If you are interested in working with us, we will consider your individual mix of qualifications, experience and areas of interest.
You must obtain and maintain a drivers licence, a NSW Working With Children Check, and required training in Child Protection. We also expect you to maintain a current First Aid certificate unless there is a reason why this is not possible.
To express interest in working with us please send your CV with details of 2 referees and a short note indicating your areas of interest to: ceo@humecon.nsw.edu.au
