Role Description The Early Years Teacher is a full-time, on-site role based at Warrah Specialist School in Dural, NSW. This role involves planning and delivering engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons for early years learners with intellectual disabilities, informed by Rudolf Steiner educational principles and aligned with individual learning plans. The teacher will assess learning needs, monitor progress, document outcomes, and adapt teaching strategies to support each learner’s growth in communication, social skills, literacy, numeracy, and life skills. Day-to-day responsibilities include classroom management, collaboration with teacher assistants and therapists, regular communication with families and carers, and participation in multidisciplinary meetings. The Early Years Teacher also contributes to school events, supports transitions between programs, and upholds Warrah’s commitment to inclusion, dignity, and person-centered practice.
Qualifications
- Relevant teaching qualification (e.g., Bachelor of Education or equivalent) with eligibility for teacher registration, ideally with a focus on early childhood or special education.
- Experience teaching children with intellectual disabilities or diverse learning needs, including individualized education planning and differentiated instruction.
- Strong classroom management and behavior support skills, with the ability to create calm, structured, and nurturing learning environments.
- Knowledge of inclusive education practices and familiarity with Rudolf Steiner or holistic educational approaches, or willingness to learn.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with learners, families, carers, therapists, and colleagues in a multidisciplinary setting.
- Capacity to develop and implement engaging, multi-sensory learning activities that support social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
- Commitment to safeguarding, child safety standards, and compliance with relevant regulatory requirements (e.g., NDIS and school policies).
- Current Working With Children Check and any other required clearances; first aid training and experience in disability services are highly regarded.
- Demonstrated empathy, patience, adaptability, and a genuine interest in supporting learners to develop self-determination, creativity, and contribution.
