The Bachar Houli Foundation (BHF) is a not-for-profit organization founded by Bachar Houli. The BHF aims to empower young Muslim Australians by providing them with education and leadership programs that promote positive values and personal development. Through its various initiatives, the foundation seeks to create a sense of belonging and inclusion for young Muslims and to build bridges between different communities. The BHF also provides mentorship and training opportunities for young Muslim athletes to help them achieve their goals on and off the field. Overall, the BHF is committed to making a positive impact on the lives of young Muslim Australians and promoting understanding and harmony within society. BHF is a related entity of Islamic College of Sport (ICS) in Victoria and New South Wales. Islamic College of Sport has multiple campuses across Victoria and New South Wales.
POSITION PURPOSE:
The Director of Education provides strategic, educational and operational leadership across the organisation’s schools and education initiatives.
The role is responsible for driving educational excellence, strategic and organisational growth, financial sustainability, governance, compliance and organisational performance across multiple jurisdictions and school campuses. The role will have delegated responsibilities for the strategic and educational leadership, enrolment growth, community engagement, and ensuring long-term viability.
Reporting to the Executive Director BHF, BHF Board and State School Governing Boards, the Director of Education develops and implements the strategic vision for all education entities while ensuring related consistency in educational quality, student outcomes, operational effectiveness and organisational culture.
The Director of Education leads a geographically dispersed education network and supports State Principals to achieve outstanding educational, wellbeing, enrolment, sporting and leadership outcomes within a unified organisational framework.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Leadership
- Lead, in partnership with Principals, the development, implementation and review of multi-year strategic plans across all education entities.
- Establish a unified educational vision centred on academic excellence, sporting achievement, Islamic identity and student wellbeing.
- Work with Principals to build and sustain a high-performance culture across all campuses.
- Develop and monitor strategic objectives, key performance indicators and organisational outcomes.
- Drive innovation while protecting and enhancing the organisation's mission and values.
- Provide strategic advice, educational expertise and executive reporting to Boards and governing bodies.
- Lead organisational growth initiatives, including enrolments, future campuses, programs and educational ventures.
- Support Principals to drive innovation and continuous improvement across teaching, learning, leadership and school operations.
- Establish performance and accountability frameworks to ensure delivery of educational, operational, financial and strategic outcomes.
Future College Establishments
- Lead the planning, establishment and scaling of new campuses and educational ventures.
- Oversee business case development, growth planning and enrolment strategies.
- Ensure governance, compliance, operational and educational frameworks are established to support successful commencement and sustainable operation.
- Lead the recruitment and development of founding leadership teams.
- Partner with the Executive Director BHF, and key stakeholders on capital works and readiness, community engagement and expansion opportunities.
Educational Leadership
- Establish and lead a high-performance culture that sets ambitious expectations for student, staff and organisational achievement.
- Develop performance frameworks that measure excellence in academic, sporting, leadership and wellbeing outcomes.
- Establish a performance-driven culture with clear accountability measures for executive leaders and Principals.
- Ensure Principals and executive leaders accountable for agreed performance targets and continuous improvement outcomes.
- Ensure excellence in curriculum delivery, assessment and reporting.
- Promote evidence-based educational practice and innovation.
- Support Principals and leadership teams in achieving academic objectives.
- Ensure educational programs reflect Islamic values while meeting all curriculum requirements.
- Promote pathways combining educational achievement, leadership and elite sporting excellence.
Compliance and Risk
- Advise Boards and leadership teams on governance matters.
- Ensure effective policy development and implementation.
- Maintain oversight of risk and compliance management frameworks.
- Work with Principals and ensure compliance with education regulations, registration requirements and reporting obligations.
- Lead school review and accreditation processes.
Child Safety and Student Wellbeing
- Champion and embed a child-safe culture across all campuses.
- Ensure compliance with all Child Safe Standards and legislative obligations.
- Maintain oversight of student wellbeing and safeguarding systems.
- Promote positive school culture, pastoral care and inclusion.
- Lead continuous improvement in student wellbeing practices.
- Ensure child safety remains embedded within governance, leadership and operational decision-making.
Financial Stewardship and Sustainability
- Develop and oversee long-term financial sustainability strategies.
- Support annual budgeting, forecasting and resource allocation processes.
- Provide educational input into capital works and expansion planning.
- Monitor enrolment performance and growth opportunities.
Leadership and People Development
- Lead and mentor Principals and senior leaders.
- Build leadership capability across all campuses.
- Establish a collaborative and accountable organisational culture.
- Support succession planning and talent development.
