About The Role
As Head of Department – Student Services, you will lead a holistic and proactive approach to student wellbeing and management, fostering a strong sense of community across students, families, and staff at Bellbird Park State Secondary College. This role is central to creating a supportive and inclusive school environment by ensuring consistent, meaningful engagement and communication that supports each student's personal and behavioural development. A key focus will be establishing clear and effective pathways of communication between students, teachers, and families, promoting a culture of trust, accountability, and care throughout the College community.
The position will commence on 20 October 2025 for a period of 12 months, unless otherwise determined. Continuation of the role will be contingent upon its ability to successfully complement existing school structures, add measurable value to the College's strategic direction, align with the final outcome of the staffing allocative model, and be supported by sustained enrolments into the future.
Your Responsibilities
As the Head of Department - Student Services, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Develop and maintain productive relationships with students, staff, parents and community to positively impact learning.
- Assist with enrolment interviews and classing of students.
- Continual promotion and reinforcement of College rules, routines and procedures that align with PBL and BASOT Frameworks.
- Support Deputy Principal in investigating, and managing consequences for behaviour and truancy incidents.
- Ensure uniform standards being met - consequences and communication with home.
- Analyse and share year level data that leads to improved outcomes - attendance, achievement, effort and behaviour of students.
- Maintain communication with parents through a number of forums (school newsletter, website, email, phone, DayMap, Facebook, etc), providing opportunities for them to share their knowledge, opinions and concerns.
- Identify ways in which the resources of the local community can be accessed and used.
- Support the program writing of the Pathway pastoral care lessons.
- Lead college Visible Support process and work collaboratively with support staff for students identified at risk.
- Be innovative in helping the cohort develop a growth mindset and own its unique identity.
- Foster and drive student voice and student leadership within the school and wider community.
- Lead relevant events to support and celebrate student success throughout the schooling year.
