Role Overview:
Join us as a founding Montessori Guide and be at the heart of our inaugural Australian school. You will have the unique opportunity to shape a model Montessori classroom from the very beginning, working with a team passionate about delivering authentic, child-centred education. This role is perfect for a dedicated educator who wants to build a strong community and set the standard for Montessori excellence in Melbourne.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead a Model Classroom
- Create and maintain a beautiful, orderly, safe, and nurturing Montessori-prepared environment that meets the developmental needs of the children.
- Provide careful supervision to ensure children's safety and adhere to Victoria's mandated teacher-to-child ratios at all times.
- Present sequential, individualised Montessori lessons in accordance with Guidepost's high standards of fidelity.
- Observe each child closely, document their progress and interests, and use your knowledge of Montessori principles to meet their individual needs.
- Guide children with warmth, respect, and joy, fostering their innate desire for independence and learning.
- Collaborate with and mentor Assistant Guides to maintain a high-quality classroom environment.
- Welcome prospective families and fellow educators into your classroom for observations and tours.
Build Strong Partnerships with Families & Community:
- Communicate regularly with parents in a personalised manner using our approved tools (e.g., photo-sharing software, newsletters).
- Provide formal, cumulative feedback through twice-yearly parent-teacher conferences, progress reports, and student portfolios.
- Meet with parents as needed to discuss their child's development and build strong, trusting relationships.
- Participate in and help host community events, classroom celebrations, and parent education evenings.
Professional Collaboration & Growth:
- Actively implement feedback from your Montessori Mentor and the Centre Director to refine your practice.
- Participate in problem-solving challenging student situations with the support of your leadership team.
- Engage in regular staff meetings, one-on-one meetings, and annual professional development.
- Pursue ongoing learning to deepen your Montessori practice and pedagogical knowledge.
Qualifications And Experience
- A Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) or equivalent, meeting the requirements for VIT (Victorian Institute of Teaching) registration as an Early Childhood Teacher.
- Montessori Certification (AMI/AMS) is a must
- Native or fluent English OR Mandarin Speaker
- Experience working with children of the appropriate age group (0-6 years)
- Passion for the Montessori method of education
- Growth mindset and problem-solving approach
