The School
Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School has over 3000 students from K-12 at campuses in Moonee Ponds, Essendon and Keilor East. Outdoor Education is an integral part of the curriculum and aims to develop teamwork amongst students and an appreciation and understanding of the natural environment.
The School provides a diamond education, with a co-educational Kindergarten programme, single-sex education at the Junior Schools and Middle Schools from Years 7 to 10 and co-education at the Larkin Centre from Years 11 to 12.
The Role
We seek an energetic, skilled and qualified casual Outdoor Education Teacher to join a team of committed educators at the school's Eildon Camp in a full-time fixed term position commencing 20 April 2026 to 11 December 2026.
This is a weekday residential role with staff accommodation provided, but staff can live at camp throughout the year if preferred.
The Outdoor Education program runs camps at Eildon to support the educational and personal development of students, typically from Years 3 to 10. Students enjoy a wide range of activities which include orienteering, abseiling, hiking, archery, rock climbing, canoeing, rafting, initiative games and high and low rope courses. The program develops teamwork amongst students and an appreciation and understanding of the natural environment.
Applicants Will Have The Following
- Teaching qualifications and VIT registration
- Appropriate Outdoor Education related qualifications and experience in the activities offered would be of benefit, with accreditation in ropes and Wilderness First Aid an advantage.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build effective relationships with students and staff
- A commitment to child safety and student welfare, including demonstrating an understanding of appropriate behaviours when engaging with children with diverse needs and backgrounds
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Effective organizational and planning skills
- Boat license is as preferred but not essential
- A current driver's licence.
