An experienced and innovative educator is being sought to join the Nerang State High School team in the position of Deputy Principal for Term 2, 2026, unless otherwise determined. You will be one of three Deputy Principals, with roles aligned across junior, middle and senior schooling. This is a temporary full-time position commencing 20 April 2026 until 26 June 2026, unless otherwise determined.
This temporary vacancy is open to Expressions of Interest and any extensions to this appointment will not exceed 12 months.
About Us
Nerang State High School is a co-educational, non-selective, public school for students from 12 to 17 years of age. The school is centrally located on the Gold Coast and has a current enrolment of over 1000 students.
Nerang State High School offers a breadth of curriculum to cater for both tertiary and vocational pathways, including our Academic Excellence, Quality Arts, VET Trades, VET Sports and Volunteering programs. The school has three phases of education; Junior Secondary for students in Years 7 to 8, Middle Secondary for students in Years 9 to 10; and Senior Secondary for Years 11 to 12. The Junior and Middle curriculum is based on the Australian Curriculum eight key learning areas and enhanced in Years 11 and 12 with choice of over 30 QCAA General, Applied and Short-Course subjects, along with AQF vocational training certificates.

About The Role
This role is responsible for the management of the middle students (year 9 & 10), along with the strategic priorities of pedagogy, digital learning and collegial engagement. The role also focuses on leading the school in systemic initiatives relating to student leadership and ensuring phase specific responsibilities are enactment, including but not limited to Career Expo, Career Education and SETP/JETP Processes.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to;
- Assist the Principal in leading the development and implementation of a shared school vision focused on achieving quality learning outcomes for all students, and act in the Principal's role when required.
- Demonstrate ethical, values-based leadership and embed socially just, inclusive practices throughout the school community.
- Maintain high expectations and standards for both student achievement and staff performance.
- Commit to ongoing professional growth while building strong, collaborative partnerships with parents, government agencies, community organisations, industry, and business.
- Lead strategically and with a future focus by understanding relevant legislation and policy requirements and effectively managing resources to achieve school priorities.
