V-EALD TEACHER
Position Details
Our Lady of Mercy Primary School is a vibrant Kindergarten to Year 6, double-stream, co-educational Catholic school in Girrawheen. We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled V-EALD teacher to join our team in a unique and rewarding role.
This is an outstanding opportunity to broaden your experience, working across both a school and system context while supporting EAL/D learners to thrive. The successful applicant will deliver targeted, high-impact support through the Virtual EAL/D (V-EALD) Program, helping students develop Standard Australian English and access the full curriculum.
The role involves designing and delivering short-term, needs-based intervention via Teams. You will collaborate with classroom teachers, contribute to EAL/D planning and assessment (including Progress Maps), and support whole-school approaches to inclusive practice.
This position includes 0.8 FTE within the CEWA V-EALD team (supported by EAL/D consultants) and 0.2 FTE onsite at Our Lady of Mercy. There is flexibility within the role, with opportunities for professional growth, leadership, and system-wide collaboration.
The position is available immediately and is open to negotiation. Secondment opportunities are welcomed, with the potential for ongoing employment.
The Successful Applicant Will Deliver Daily Virtual Lessons And
- Have experience teaching EAL/D students in mainstream, IEC or intervention settings.
- Demonstrate inclusive, culturally responsive practice and understanding of migrant experiences.
- Show knowledge of second language acquisition, EAL/D Progress Maps and the WA Curriculum.
- Lead, coach and mentor staff to support academic and social/emotional needs.
- Demonstrate or develop skills in delivering engaging virtual programs.
Selection Criteria
- Plan and deliver daily virtual lessons.
- Support schools to complete EAL/D Interviews.
- Assess students using Progress Maps.
- Coordinate and implement programs based on student needs.
- Develop EAL/D resources and support whole-school practice.
- Monitor and report student progress.
- Liaise with schools to support EAL/D Learning Plans.
- Assist accurate reporting across learning areas.
- Manage student exit processes and reporting.
- Liaise with CEWA consultants and maintain data.
Qualifications Required
- Four-year trained teacher.
- Current WWC and TRBWA registration.
- Accreditation to Teach in a Catholic school or willingness to obtain.
- Any additional qualifications (eg Applied Linguistics, TESOL, Second Language Acquisition or similar) are preferred but not essential.
