As the Head of Learning & Support, you will provide strategic leadership to a dedicated team of Learning Support Teachers and Officers, ensuring students of all learning profiles are supported to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Working closely with College leadership, teachers, families, and allied health professionals, you will champion inclusive education while supporting the Islamic ethos and values of the College community.
The Role
This position plays a critical role in leading inclusive practices, overseeing compliance and intervention frameworks, and ensuring all students have access to meaningful and equitable learning opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a whole-school vision for inclusive education aligned with the College’s mission and values
- Lead the Learning Support department, driving best practice and continuous improvement initiatives
- Review and develop policies relating to disability adjustments, intervention programs, and student support
- Manage departmental budgets and oversee specialist teaching resources and intervention programs
Compliance & Data Management
- Lead the annual Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) process, including moderation and evidence verification
- Ensure compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act and Disability Standards for Education (2005)
- Coordinate applications for NESA disability provisions, including NAPLAN and HSC adjustments
- Maintain accurate records, reporting, and documentation aligned with regulatory requirements
- Facilitate the development, implementation, and review of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and personalised learning plans
- Analyse assessment data and standardised testing to identify student needs and implement targeted interventions
- Oversee evidence-based support programs including literacy and numeracy intervention initiatives
- Collaborate with external specialists including psychologists, speech therapists, and occupational therapists
Staff Leadership & Mentoring
- Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary Learning Support team, including Learning Support Teachers and SLSOs
- Build staff capability through professional learning focused on differentiation, inclusion, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
- Foster collaborative practice across teaching, wellbeing, and leadership teams
- Co-chair Learning Support Team meetings and contribute to whole-school planning
Community Engagement
- Develop strong partnerships with families through open and supportive communication
- Support students and families during key educational transition points
- Promote a culture of inclusion, belonging, and high expectations across the College community
Essential Criteria
- NESA accredited teacher with recognised teaching qualifications
- Postgraduate qualifications in Special Education, Learning Difficulties, or a related field
- Proven leadership experience within a Learning Support or Diverse Learning environment
- Extensive knowledge of NCCD processes, Disability Standards for Education, and NESA disability provisions
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement targeted intervention programs using student data
- Experience developing and reviewing IEPs and personalised learning plans
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Strong organisational, leadership, and problem-solving abilities
- Current Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain within 30 days)
Desirable Criteria
- Experience within an independent K–12 school setting
- Understanding of and commitment to supporting the Islamic ethos and values of the College
- Experience managing HSC and NAPLAN disability provisions
- Advanced knowledge of differentiated pedagogy and inclusive classroom practices
