Working closely with College leadership, teachers, students, and families, the Head of Discipline will oversee student behaviour processes, implement proactive intervention strategies, and support staff in maintaining high behavioural expectations aligned with the values and ethos of the College.
The Role
- Lead behaviour management and disciplinary processes across the Primary School (K–6)
- Promote a culture of positive behaviour, personal responsibility, and student growth
- Ensure disciplinary policies are implemented fairly, consistently, and in line with College expectations
- Support teachers and families in addressing behavioural concerns through proactive and restorative approaches
- Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and productive school environment where all students can thrive
Key Responsibilities - Leadership & Behaviour Management
- Develop, implement, and review student discipline policies and procedures in collaboration with school leadership
- Ensure behaviour management practices align with educational legislation, Child Safe Standards, and College policies
- Monitor student behaviour trends and implement early intervention strategies to address emerging concerns
- Respond to disciplinary incidents in a fair, consistent, and timely manner
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, interventions, and resolutions
Staff Collaboration & Support
- Work closely with teachers to support effective classroom management and positive behaviour strategies
- Provide coaching and professional development to staff on behaviour management best practices
- Collaborate with wellbeing, counselling, and leadership teams to support students with behavioural challenges
- Promote restorative practices and proactive student engagement strategies across the school
Parent & Community Engagement
- Build positive partnerships with parents and caregivers through clear, respectful communication
- Address behavioural concerns collaboratively while maintaining professionalism and fairness
- Attend parent meetings, school events, and community gatherings as a representative of the College
- Engage with external stakeholders and authorities where required
Student Wellbeing & Intervention
- Support students in developing accountability, resilience, and positive decision-making skills
- Implement programs and initiatives that encourage character development and respectful behaviour
- Collaborate with the counselling team to ensure students receive appropriate support and guidance
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Reduction in recurring behavioural incidents through proactive intervention
- Consistent implementation of the College behaviour policy across all Primary staff
- High levels of parent satisfaction regarding communication and fairness of disciplinary processes
- Strong compliance with Child Safe Standards and mandatory reporting obligations
- Positive contribution to overall student wellbeing and school culture
Key Selection Criteria
- Proven experience in a similar leadership role within an independent school setting (K–12 preferred)
- Strong understanding of behaviour management frameworks and restorative practices
- Excellent organisational, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication abilities
- Demonstrated commitment to compliance, governance, and continuous improvement
- Ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, parents, and the wider community
- Current Working with Children Check, or ability to obtain within 30 days of commencement
- Alignment with the values and ethos of the College
