NOTICE OF POSITION
Position
The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Pascal Mubenga, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of curriculum committee members for the following committee to serve as needed from June 2026 to August 2026.
Grades K-12 Heritage Language Curriculum Committee Member
Arabic, Bengali, Burmese, Karen, Somali, Swahili
5 days in June (TBD) & 5 days in August (TBD)

Qualifications
Candidates must hold a New York State teacher certification, be currently employed with the Buffalo Public Schools as a tenured teacher and have knowledge of the Next Generation Learning Standards ELA and the Blueprint for English Language Learner/Multilingual Learner (ELL/MLL) Success. Candidates must hold a valid teaching certificate in: English as a Second Language, Bilingual Education, Elementary Education, Secondary English, Special Education, or Reading.
Duties
Curriculum committees will work directly with the Division of Multilingual Education and/or curriculum administrators. Committees must complete a variety of assignments within a mandated time frame. Assignments include but are not limited to developing frameworks and relevant content for Heritage Languages for Arabic, Bengali, Burmese, Karen, Somali, and Swahili.
Committee Members Will Be
- Creating curriculum outlines for each grade level that are tailored to the project-based learning approach
- Create a teacher-friendly lesson plan to be utilized during the summer and during the school year
- Create teacher-made resources for translanguaging purposes for the languages Arabic, Bengali, Burmese, Karen, Somali, and Swahili.
- Committee members will work closely with Academic Coaches and with the Division’s Resource Cultural Aides
Appointment
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, credentials and evaluation of service. Personal interviews shall be scheduled where appropriate.
SALARY: Committee members will be paid at the contractual rate.
