Townsville Grammar School is one of the original Grammar Schools of Queensland. The Year 7-12 campus is located on the original site at North Ward. The School also operates two Junior School campuses, both offering Pre-Prep to Year 6, at Annandale and North Shore.
Townsville Grammar School is a co-educational, non-denominational School with a current enrolment of approximately 1400 students, including 120 boarders (7-12), of whom approximately 25 are international students.
As one of the eight original Grammar Schools in Queensland, Townsville Grammar School was established in 1888 and has offered boarding since this time. The School has a long-standing reputation as the leading academic school in Northern Queensland, also offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme for Years 11 and 12.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and student-focused full-time permanent Legal Studies Teacher to join our teaching team. This is an opportunity to contribute to a high-quality academic program that develops students’ understanding of law, justice and civic responsibility. The date of commencement is flexible - we will consider a start in either 2026 or 2027.
About The Role
The Legal Studies Teacher delivers engaging, academically rigorous learning experiences that explore the relationship between law and society. The role focuses on developing students’ understanding of legal systems, rights and responsibilities, while building their skills in critical thinking, analysis and ethical decision-making.
You will contribute to a contemporary, curriculum-aligned program and to the broader academic and pastoral life of the School.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will contribute as an effective classroom practitioner and collaborative faculty member. Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing and delivering high-quality teaching and learning programs aligned with curriculum and assessment requirements
- Developing learning experiences that build students’ understanding of legal systems, governance and contemporary legal issues
- Supporting students to develop skills in inquiry, critical thinking, problem-solving and ethical reasoning
- Monitoring, assessing and reporting on student progress, providing timely and constructive feedback
- Maintaining a positive and well-managed classroom environment that reflects the School’s expectations and values
- Contributing to curriculum planning, including the development and review of unit plans and assessment to ensure rigour and relevance
- Supporting student wellbeing through active participation in the School’s pastoral care and Positive Education framework
You will also contribute to the broader life of the School by working collaboratively with colleagues, engaging professionally with parents, and participating in co‑curricular activities and School events.
About You
You are a reflective and committed educator with a strong understanding of Legal Studies and a focus on student learning and growth. You are able to engage students of varying abilities and foster an environment that encourages thoughtful discussion and independent thinking.
You Will Demonstrate
- Relevant teaching qualifications and current QCT registration
- Experience teaching Legal Studies or a closely related subject
- Strong classroom management and the ability to engage a diverse range of learners
- The capacity to design and deliver effective, intellectually engaging learning experiences
- A collaborative approach to teaching and a commitment to continuous improvement
- Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills
