Shelford Campus
Opening in 2027 in the heart of Caulfield, Shelford Campus will be Caulfield Grammar School’s newest Junior School. The campus will initially offer exceptional education for students in Prep and Years 4–6, before growing into a full Prep to Year 6 Junior School. This represents a once‑in‑a‑career opportunity for a founding teaching team to shape the culture and community from the ground up, delivering high‑impact learning in an outstanding purpose‑designed environment.
The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to inspire creativity and help establish an exceptional Performing Arts program at our new Shelford Campus.
Reporting to the Deputy Head of Campus, the Junior School Performing Arts Teacher will work collaboratively with classroom teachers to deliver a contemporary and engaging Performing Arts program that reflects the School's values and commitment to excellence. A key aspect of the role will be partnering with classroom teachers to make authentic connections between the Performing Arts and the English curriculum, enriching students' learning through drama, storytelling and performance.
Working with students from Prep to Year 6, you will create rich learning experiences across dance, drama and performance that foster creativity, confidence, collaboration and self-expression. Through a dynamic curriculum, you will nurture students' artistic talents while building their performance skills and love of the performing arts.
As a founding member of the Shelford Campus team, you will play a key role in shaping a vibrant culture of performance by directing campus productions, plays, concerts and musicals that bring our community together and create a culture where the arts are valued as an integral part of every child's education.
This part-time opportunity offers potential for additional hours in the future, aligned with the ongoing growth and development of the campus.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver an engaging Performing Arts program across the Junior School, promoting creativity, skill development and performance confidence.
- Design and implement sequential learning experiences aligned to curriculum requirements, incorporating contemporary and inquiry‑based teaching practices.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages creative expression, collaboration and student voice.
- Assess and monitor student learning, providing timely and meaningful feedback to support growth and development.
- Differentiate teaching to meet the diverse needs, abilities and backgrounds of all students.
- Plan, direct and coordinate performances, productions and events that showcase Performing Arts across the School.
- Collaborate with teachers and learning leaders to integrate Performing Arts across the curriculum and enhance student learning experiences.
- Maintain and manage Performing Arts resources, equipment and learning spaces to support safe and effective teaching.
- Actively contribute to professional learning, collaboration and continuous improvement initiatives within the School.
- Demonstrate active involvement in School life, including co‑curricular opportunities where appropriate.
- Uphold the School’s commitment to Child Safety, ensuring the wellbeing, safety and dignity of all students at all times.
- Model and live the Caulfield Grammar School values and behaviours.
Skills And Qualifications
- Teaching qualifications with a preference for a specialisation in Performing Arts, Music, Dance or Drama .
- Current Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration.
- First Aid – Level 2 and Anaphylaxis qualifications (or willingness to obtain).
- Demonstrated experience teaching Performing Arts in a primary or junior school setting.
- Strong knowledge of curriculum and contemporary Performing Arts teaching practices.
- Proven ability to design and deliver engaging, differentiated learning programs that support diverse learners.
- Proven experience directing plays, musicals and performances in Junior School settings.
- Experience delivering creative, performance‑based and inquiry‑driven learning experiences.
- Highly developed communication, organisational and time management skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and the wider school community.
- Commitment to professional learning, reflective practice and continuous improvement.
- A passion for Performing Arts education and fostering creativity and confidence in young learners.
