Shelford Campus
Opening in 2027 in the heart of Caulfield, Shelford Campus will be Caulfield Grammar School’s newest Junior School. The campus will initially offer exceptional education for students in Prep and Years 4–6, before growing into a full Prep to Year 6 Junior School. This represents a once‑in‑a‑career opportunity for a founding teaching team to shape the culture and community from the ground up, delivering high‑impact learning in an outstanding purpose‑designed environment.
The Role
The Junior School EAL Teacher will play a key role in delivering a high‑quality English as an Additional Language (EAL) program that reflects the School’s values, culture and commitment to excellence.
Reporting to the Head of Learning Strategies, and working in collaboration with teachers, you will contribute to the delivery of an inclusive and contemporary EAL program across the Junior School.
You will support students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds through targeted, engaging learning experiences that develop English language proficiency, confidence and a strong sense of belonging.
Central to this role is the design and delivery of a dynamic EAL curriculum that supports language acquisition across speaking, listening, reading and writing from Prep to Year 6, ensuring best practice in assessment, reporting and pedagogy. You will also work collaboratively with classroom teachers to support differentiated learning and inclusive practices.
This part-time opportunity (0.4 FTE) offers potential for additional hours in the future, aligned with the ongoing growth and development of the campus.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver an engaging EAL program across the Junior School, supporting English language acquisition and student confidence.
- Design and implement sequential learning experiences aligned to curriculum requirements, incorporating contemporary and evidence based EAL teaching practices.
- Support students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds through targeted intervention, small group work and in‑class support.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that values diversity, promotes cultural understanding and encourages student participation.
- Assess and monitor student language development, providing timely and meaningful feedback to support progress and achievement.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and learning leaders to differentiate curriculum and embed EAL strategies across all learning areas.
- Provide guidance and support to staff in understanding and implementing effective EAL strategies within the classroom.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and contribute to reporting and parent communication processes.
- Actively contribute to professional learning, collaboration and continuous improvement initiatives within the School.
- Demonstrate active involvement in School life, including co‑curricular opportunities where appropriate.

Skills And Qualifications
- Teaching qualifications with a specialisation in EAL.
- Current Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration.
- First Aid – Level 2 and Anaphylaxis qualifications (or willingness to obtain).
- Demonstrated experience teaching English as an Additional Language in a primary or junior school setting.
- Strong knowledge of EAL curriculum frameworks and contemporary language acquisition practices.
- Proven ability to design and deliver engaging, differentiated learning programs that support diverse learners.
- Experience supporting students with varying levels of English proficiency through targeted instruction.
- Highly developed communication, organisational and time management skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and the wider school community.
- Commitment to professional learning, reflective practice and continuous improvement.
- A passion for supporting multilingual learners and fostering inclusive education environments.
