This exciting new position commencing in January 2026 for Head of Department - Junior Schooling (Year 8) to support enrollment growth and strategic direction of the school. The Head of Department - Junior Schooling (Year 8) at Yeronga State High School will be a relational leader who strengthens teaching and learning outcomes by fostering student engagement, wellbeing, and belonging.
In this position you will work collaboratively with the respective Deputy Principals in the Junior, Middle and Senior phases of Secondary Schooling. This is a temporary full-time position for a period of 12 months, unless otherwise determined.

About The Role

The Head of Department - Junior Schooling (Year 8) at Yeronga State High School will be relational leaders who strengthens teaching and learning outcomes by fostering student engagement, wellbeing, and belonging. The Heads of Year will work collaboratively with the respective Deputy Principals in the Junior, Middle and Senior phases of Secondary Schooling.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to;
- Lead Year level student wellbeing program, locally known as Learner Agency Program.
- Identify and support students requiring targeted intervention, guided by data and referrals.
- Lead Tier 2 behaviour interventions working with closely with Deputy Principals, HOSES and Curriculum Heads of Department to tailor student supports.
- Develop Behaviour Support Plans, Discipline Improvement Plans and Student Support Plans.
- Monitor and drive attendance and engagement improvement across your Year Level, implementing plans and fostering positive community partnerships.
- Lead engagement case meetings with the wellbeing team, ensuring multi-tiered supports for learning and engagement are in place.
- Inspire a culture of Effort, Empathy and Respect, ensuring our school is a true source of belonging and identity for every student.
