Townsville Grammar School is one of the original Grammar Schools of Queensland. The Year 7-12 campus is located on the original site at North Ward. The School also operates two Junior School campuses, both offering Pre-Prep to Year 6, at Annandale and North Shore.
Townsville Grammar School is a co-educational, non-denominational School with a current enrolment of approximately 1400 students, including 120 boarders (7-12), of whom approximately 25 are international students.
As one of the eight original Grammar schools in Queensland, Townsville Grammar School was established in 1888 and has offered boarding since this time. The School has a long-standing reputation as the leading academic school in Northern Queensland, also offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme for Years 11 and 12.
We have a full-time, permanent opportunity for an experienced HPE Teacher (Senior) for a Term 3 commencement in 2026. This position will work at our North Ward Campus.
The Position Will
- Teach Health & Physical Education to Senior 7-12 students at North Ward Campus.
- Provide coaching for School sports and co-curricular physical activities
- Work in close consultation with our Director of Sport & Activities for sporting programs and activities
- Contribute to planning, assessment and delivery of HPE curriculum in line with the School's values and educational goals
Teachers at Townsville Grammar School are responsible for creating a positive and well managed classroom environment that reflects mutual respect and shared values. The successful candidate will ensure that teaching practices facilitate student involvement, access to a variety of resources and the optimisation of student success relative to ability.
A relevant teaching qualification and QCT Registration is mandatory. Additionally, our ideal candidate will have:
- Relevant HPE credentials and experience
- Demonstrated experience in coaching sports (primary level preferred)
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- A passion for student wellbeing, physical activity and building inclusive sporting culture
You will also be committed to the aims and ethos of independent Schools and be willing to participate in the co-curricular and pastoral life of the School.
It is a requirement of the full-time roles to attend the following School functions: Meet and Greet functions, Parent-Teacher Nights, Speech Day, Open Night, Subject Information Nights, School Camps, Sports Carnivals, Cultural Performances and other events as deemed necessary from time to time by the Principal.
