Client: Multi-Family Office | Ultra-High-Net-Worth Clients
Focus: Investment strategy | Whole-of-portfolio oversight
Ideal Background: Private wealth, family /multi-family office, UHNW advisory, retail investment leadership
Preferred Experience: Multi-asset portfolios, external manager oversight, alternatives, private markets and sophisticated client environments
The Opportunity
This is one of those roles that will genuinely excite the right person. Not because it is a traditional investment leadership seat in a large institution. It is not. And that is exactly the point.
This is an opportunity to step into a boutique advisory environment working with ultra-high-net-worth families, complex private wealth structures and sophisticated client portfolios.Think of this as an outsourced CIO-style position for UHNW families.
You will help clients think clearly about their broader investment picture: objectives, risk, liquidity, asset allocation, manager selection, alternatives, governance, reporting and how all the moving parts fit together.
The business already has deep client relationships. The opportunity now is to build a more sophisticated investment capability around those relationships; one that is thoughtful, disciplined, well-governed and genuinely useful to families with meaningful capital and complex affairs.
For someone from private wealth, family office, multi-family office, UHNW advisory, portfolio strategy, or high-quality retail investment leadership who wants greater ownership and the ability to shape the model, this is a very strong brief.
Role Profile
You will be the senior investment leader helping to shape the firm’s investment capabilities and ensuring that clients receive thoughtful, disciplined, and well-governed portfolio oversight. Your mandate will include:
- Translating family objectives, risk appetite, liquidity needs, tax context and long-term priorities into clear investment direction.
- Taking a whole-of-portfolio view across listed markets, fixed income, alternatives, private markets, cash, property, external managers and other exposures.
- Providing strategic thinking around asset allocation, diversification, portfolio balance, concentration risk, liquidity and long-term positioning.
- Assessing external investment managers, advisers, platforms and specialist providers, including mandate fit, performance, fees, risk and reporting quality.
- Bringing depth across alternatives, private markets, real assets and other non-traditional investment areas relevant to sophisticated families.
- Developing a disciplined research framework to support recommendations, manager oversight and clear client communication.
- Helping build the governance framework underpinning the investment function, including policy, documentation, review processes and reporting cadence.
- Acting as a credible investment voice with families, founders, advisers and other stakeholders.
- Working with leadership to define how the investment capability is delivered, scaled and governed in a premium multi-family office environment.
Successful Candidate Profile
This role will suit a senior investment professional with a background in private wealth, family office, multi-family office, UHNW advisory, or retail investment leadership.
The distinction is important. We are not looking for a purely institutional investor who has spent their career managing money at arm’s length from private clients. This role needs someone who understands sophisticated families, private wealth dynamics, adviser ecosystems and the reality that investment strategy needs to work in the context of the whole family balance sheet. You will bring:
- Strong experience working with ultra-high-net-worth families, sophisticated private clients, family offices, multi-family offices or complex private wealth structures.
- A background in private wealth, retail investment leadership, portfolio strategy, asset allocation, research, manager selection or multi-asset advisory.
- Strong multi-asset capability across listed markets, fixed income, property, alternatives, private markets, cash and other portfolio exposures.
- Depth of research capability across multi-asset and alternative investments, including the ability to assess managers, strategies, risks, fees and portfolio fit.
- Whole-of-portfolio thinking across multiple managers, advisers, structures and asset classes.
- Sound judgement in balancing investment rigour with family context, tax considerations, liquidity needs, relationship management and commercial practicality.
- Confidence communicating with sophisticated clients, founders, families, external advisers, investment managers and senior stakeholders.
- Familiarity with governance, risk and regulated investment environments, ideally including AFSL-linked settings.
- Responsible Manager capability, or the credibility and background to satisfy those requirements, will be viewed favourably.
You will need the investment depth to be credible, but also the judgement, discretion and client sensitivity required in a high-trust family office environment.
